Rebranding

As you can see, we’re making some changes.  Someone I know as a business connection said “Oh, so you’re rebranding?”.  I bit my lip a little when I heard that…that… word.  I hate it. It’s a bullshit expression which is corporate double-talk for “our image sucks and we’re doing shit wrong”.   So, no. I am not “rebranding”!  All we’re doing here is making some changes because our image sucks and we’re doing shit wrong.  See the difference? :-)

Overall, I’m kinda proud of what the site had to offer over the past 14 years.   Plex Sharing, as well as many other elements introduced over the years has been very fulfilling and popular. I have no reason to think it won’t continue along that same route. Our modest but faithful social network of almost 900 members have been nothing less than phenomenal.  We continue to expand  the site and add other things of interest.

But how we present these things to our members will have to change.  As the Oxwall platform ages, with no updates since 2016, patches are being put in place manually and have to be developed by either myself or other experienced members of the community.  We’ve reached the point where this is no longer practical.  So at some point in the new year, we will be replacing Oxwall with another option and migrating our member base to a new community software solution.

Likewise,  I’ve been concerned about consistency. Hell, the arcade dates back to the very first incarnation of the site and ran under SMF.  It’s not mobile-friendly… and it never will be.  I keep it for the sake of nostalgia.  Some time within the next year, it’ll be shutting down as well.  My original blogs are through WordPress. Reluctantly, because of the direction they have been taking within the past year, I’ll be migrating those blog posts over to here in the coming weeks and months.

Basically, we’re talking about streamlining the entire site, making it easier to access and to understand (particularly for our non-English speaking Plex Sharing friends.  Just an elaborate face-lift, folks.  I hope y’all have a safe and happy Holiday Season.

Peace.
